Rhetorical Change on Climate Change

The UN climate change summit begins today in Cancun (Americans for Progress has a humorous video of the opening festivities).

Global cooling / warming / climate change has always been a fraud in the sense that its most fervent advocates corrupted data, published lies and censored critics in an attempt to control global economics under the guise of environmental protection. In the past, they had the decency to hide their real motives, but either a sense of futility or shamelessness has convinced some to speak more candidly.

Ottmar Edenhofer, co-chair the Cancun summit, recently admitted:

The climate summit in Cancun at the end of the month is not a climate conference, but one of the largest economic conferences since the Second World War.

... we redistribute de facto the world's wealth by climate policy. Obviously, the owners of coal and oil will not be enthusiastic about this. One has to free oneself from the illusion that international climate policy is environmental policy. This has almost nothing to do with environmental policy anymore.

Luckily, the U.S. is entirely ignoring Cancun and attendees have little hope of leaving with anything more than a suntan. As the Kyoto treaty nears its 2012 expiration, may this also spell the slow death of the climate change movement.

Except that climate change is "real" and 2010 will be the warmest year on record.

The thing is we already have a host of really cheap and quickly deployable technologies to counter it that won't need a carbon tax or cap and trade.

According to the authors of Super-Freakonomics, For around 50 million a year we can deploy a sort a geo-engineering solution that pumps sulphur dioxide into the troposphere/stratosphere to duplicate a volcanic effect, and cool the earth down.

According to Ronald Coarse given the cheap cost of such a solution, if the externalities of global warming are really that great, such a method should find financing. The problem will be nations, and private actors taking it upon themselves to geo-engineer the climate.

So the problem isn't lack of science/control about global warming, but eventually an excess of science/control about global warming. At least this is what I kind of think in the medium term/long run.

I actually think we kind of know what makes the world warmer, and what makes it cooler, but property rights in global climate are completly ambiguous.

"Climate change is real"...Well, yeah; every year's climate is different than every other year's, so the climate is changing. The question is, why should I take yours or anyone's word on whether I should be willing to make any sacrifice whatsoever to do anything about it? I perceive so much controversy about it, and am familiar enough with scientific research in general to know how easy it is to 'skew' results, and how often 'peer review' is nothing but an echo chamber, that I do not perceive a scientific concensus on the subject, notwithstanding those who claim the science is 'settled'. Therefore I am inclined to put more credence in the opinion of those pundits who share a similar worldview with mine, namely Judao-Christian and politically conservative. Said pundits lead me to believe there is no sense in making sacrifices to alter any putative 'climate change'.

Climate change is real? Well Duh. It was raining cats and dogs here about a week ago and this week it has been freezing temperatures and tons of snow dumped on the Sierras. It is going to rain tonight and get warmer on Sunday and then rain again on Monday. The fricking climate changes daily and if you live in places like Texas, wait 20 minutes and the climate will change. Climate change is like Lindsay Lohan. Drunk one day, sober the next.

Get off this stupid Global warming stuck on stupid mentality. Even Al Gore, Mr. Global Warming himself, admitted that his corn-ethanol program was to benefit corn farmers in Iowa and Tennessee. And these climate change whackjobs in Cancun flew on JETS to get to the climate change conference where the weather is extremely nice this time of year. There is more horse manure coming from Climate Change Addicts than from the horses in my pasture. The Climate Change Addicts are really the ones causing global warming.
