Alligators in the Moat

In my earlier post on Obama's appeal to Latinos, I missed his slap at Republicans:

Even though we've answered these concerns, I've got to say i suspect there's still some who are trying to move the goal posts on us one more time. You know, they said 'we needed to triple the border patrol.' Well, now they're going to say we need to quadruple the border patrol, or they'll want a higher fence. Maybe they'll need a moat. Maybe they'll want alligators in the moat. They'll never be satisfied. I understand. That's politics. But the truth is the measures we put in place are getting results

While he's obviously wrong about having met Conservative's concerns, the bit about the alligators is pretty funny. And not an entirely bad idea, actually . . . .

UPDATE: See Jim Dimint's article at NRO for a detailed response to Obama's speech.

"Even though we've answered these concerns with the 1986 amnesty, I've got to say I suspect there's still some who are trying to move the goal posts on us one more time. You know, they said 'we needed to triple the number of legal immigrants." Well, now they're going to say we need to stop enforcement of the border or stop checking for real IDs in the workplace or the voting booth, or they'll want no fence. Maybe they'll want a open border law. Maybe they will want all Americans to move to Mexico and all those in Latin America to move to the United States. They'll never be satisfied. I understand. That's politics. But the truth is the measures we put in place are getting results. And they don't like it."

Abe Lincoln disputed Stephen Douglas's analogy of favoring the negro in a fight with an alligator and the white man in a fight with a black man. See any comparisons here, Justin?

I'd say there's a good article in that for Ken Thomas . . . or someone.

this is part of a joke circulated some years ago, after Katrina:

How do you solve the flooding problem in New Orleans, the immigration problem along the Mexico border, and the overpopulation of alligators in Florida all at the same time?

1. Dig a moat along the border.
2. Use the dirt to rebuild the levees in New Orleans.
3. Move the alligators from Florida to the border moat.

Problems solved.

So Obama thinks border security is really a joke. The unfortunate thing is, as it is currently being done, he's right. Can we please elect a serious adult for president next time?
