Its hard not to regard this CNN poll as good news, though its value is limited by the overall composition of the polling group, more Republican than the population at large (since--however unfortunate this may be--Republicans are more likely to watch a speech by a Republican president than are others).
You can read and watch the speech here. The folks at National Review didnt much like it, thought the sites symposiasts had a few--only a few--nice things to say, amidst much criticism and grumbling.
I await the inevitable editorial by Bill Kristol, with whose mildly positive comments I found myself in agreement last night.
I didnt think that the plan goes far enough either. One question that came to mind was that how will these National Guardsmen generate respect along the border when they are unarmed? I wasnt looking for tanks along the border but I think that a show of force might make some illegals think twice.
I did hear a funny comment from a Canadian co-worker who dared say things were now falling into place for the great Canadian invasion!
